February 4 or February 6, 2027: Horse or Goat?

On this calculator, February 4 and 5, 2027 are Horse; February 6 is Goat. The calculator changes the year animal on Lunar New Year's Day, February 6. February 4 is Start of Spring (Lichun), a separate solar term. Use your complete birth date in the Chinese zodiac calculator for this site's result.

A 2027 date line: Start of Spring on February 4; February 4 and 5 remain Horse in this calculator; Lunar New Year on February 6 changes the calculator result to Goat.
Two dates named in the Hong Kong Observatory's 2027 conversion table; the color change shows only the method implemented on this site.

Five birth dates, one consistent rule

The following checks apply the site's published lunar-year boundary to actual Gregorian dates. The February 4 solar term does not change the result of this calculator.

Gregorian birth dateWhat the calendar saysYear animal here
February 3, 2027Before both datesHorse
February 4, 2027Start of SpringHorse
February 5, 2027After Start of Spring, before Lunar New YearHorse
February 6, 2027First day of the new lunar month and yearGoat
February 7, 2027After Lunar New YearGoat

Entering just 2027 in year-only mode shows Goat, because that mode labels the lunar year beginning in 2027. It does not assign a personal animal to every date in the Gregorian year. For a February 4 or 5 birthday, switch to date mode.

Why two sites might disagree

The Hong Kong Observatory's 2027 calendar lists “Spring Commences” on February 4 and the “1st Lunar Month” on February 6. Its calendar explainer also separates the Start of Spring solar term from Lunar New Year's Day.

Chinese Sign Finder answers a specific question: Which animal belongs to the lunar year containing this date? It therefore changes from the 2026 Horse year to the 2027 Goat year on February 6. A tool using a Start of Spring boundary is applying a different convention. Check that tool's stated method before comparing results; this page does not calculate a Four Pillars or BaZi year pillar.

  1. Check whether you entered a full birth date or only a year.
  2. Look for the site's boundary rule: Lunar New Year or Start of Spring.
  3. If you want this site's lunar-year animal, compare your recorded date with February 6, 2027.

Quick answers

Is February 4, 2027 Goat on this site?

No. February 4 is Start of Spring, but the site's date mode still returns Horse until February 5.

What about a February 5 birthday?

It is still before the February 6 lunar New Year, so the date-mode result is Horse.

Why does year-only mode say Goat?

Year-only mode describes the lunar year that begins in 2027. It does not know whether your birthday is before its start.

Method and sources

The 2027 dates come from the Hong Kong Observatory's Gregorian–Lunar Calendar Conversion Table of 2027. The previous year is labeled Horse in its 2026 table. The five-row comparison and two-boundary diagram are original applications of those dates to the calculator's date and year modes.
