Supported Gregorian birth dates: January 1, 1902 through December 31, 2030. Birth-year mode accepts 1902 through 2030. The Chinese New Year boundaries and annual animal names are taken from the Hong Kong Observatory’s Gregorian–Lunar Calendar Conversion Tables. Each year’s result can be checked in its linked annual table.
The Hong Kong Observatory’s animal-cycle guide explains the twelve signs. Element names follow the heavenly stem correspondence documented by Shandong University’s Center for Zhouyi & Ancient Chinese Philosophy. The lunar month and day are counted from the Observatory’s published lunar-month start dates.

Use your complete birth date. The animal changes at Chinese New Year, which does not always fall on the same Gregorian date.
Can I use this Chinese zodiac sign calculator with only a birth year?
Yes. Birth-year mode shows the sign of the lunar year that begins in that Gregorian year. Enter the full date to resolve a birthday before the New Year boundary.
How does Chinese zodiac by birth year differ from birth date?
The year-only answer names the lunar year that starts in that year. A complete date lets the calculator check whether your birth occurred before or after that start.
